Though Voxtrot is now defunct, as they quit touring in June, unbeknownst to me, they are/were highly underrated. (At least, I don’t remember much hype surrounding them, but I also live in a cave.) This probably had something to do with their release of only three EPs and one full length album.
But still.
Those three EPs and one full length album were indie pop perfection. There isn’t a song by Voxtrot I don’t like. There isn’t a song by Voxtrot I don’t want to sing along to.
The songs present themselves as simple and poppy tunes, but upon closer inspection, they are actually carefully layered with guitar, violin, and ever so sincere vocals. Ramesh Srivastava signs every word like he means it. He probably does mean them.
Anyway, don’t take my word for it, because I can’t do them justice. Just listen for yourself. And try to get their releases. Voxtrot, their full length album was released in 2007 isn’t quite as good as the EPs, which are sublime, but it’s still an album I keep returning to. Raised by Wolves,Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives, and Your Biggest Fan are worth searching for to listen to. The song above is their single fromVoxtrot called “Firecracker.” If you haven’t listened to it yet, you need to, or you will always feel like you are missing something from your life.
