The 1959 Hat Co.

Since I am a terrible person and repeat myself, I come back bearing delicious twee from Toledo, OH. Good music does exist in Ohio! Who knew?

Their sound is dreamy and bubble gummy without being cloying. The 1959 Hat Co. successfully blends a modern sound in addition to 1960s-esque jangling guitar and sometimes even doo-wop-esque vocals.Their song,”Butterflies,” is a perfect example of this. The vocals are soothing. The lyrics are sincere. Okay, maybe they’re pretty saccharine, but it works. Butterflies was released while the band still called themselves The Hat Company in 2007. The album it’s on, Fair Weathered Friends, is a damn good listen and their latest release, the Awesome Sneakers EP holds up to the previous releases.
