praise be to itunes
unbeknownst to me, itunes has released several of radiohead’s original ep’s throughout 2008 and 2009. what’s so shocking about this is the fact that these ep’s are extremely hard to find, unless you’re willing to give up a week’s cigarette money or you know of a good family-owned music store in liverpool.
although some of the ep’s are a bit flawed (one or two of them are not complete) i applaud itunes for making available some of the most haunting* b-sides to be released since…ever. and they are reasonably cheap!
as i’ve said before, the debate that music is a conduit to spiritual ecstasy can easily be proven with just one listen to radiohead. go now and experience!
*emotionally-charged might be a better word choice
I wouldn’t go as far as to call Radiohead a spiritual experience as I would to call them a life-changing one. And not in a Sam from Garden State-esque, “Come on, you have to listen to this! It’ll change your life!” way.
Everybody who has listened to Radiohead has an opinion about them. They’re one of those bands people either love or hate. Personally, I have a love/hate relationship with them and usually don’t know how I feel because their sound changes so much from album to album.
I’m going to give these EPs a chance when I have the time. Love them or hate them, you probably should too. There’s this charge they have - that even if you don’t like them, I find that heat can be channeled into feeling alive, which I think is what Sam was trying to say.
